Way Too Early 2018 MLB Mock Draft

#1 PHI: Kumar Rocker – RHP – HS (Georgia)

Kumar Is My #1 Pick Right Based On His Advanced Feel For Pitching He Reminds Me A Lot Of Hunter Greene (Cincinnati Reds 2016 First Round Pick) From The 2017 MLB Draft. But I Feel Kumar Is A Better Prospect With A Lot More Realistic Shot At #1 Then Greene Did.

#2 CHW: Brady Singer – RHP – Florida

Brady Has A Very Good Chance At Being The #1 Pick Next Summer If He Has A Similar Season To This Past He Has Very Good Velocity With A Great Feel Of Command. If He Puts Together A Season With The Stuff He Had In This Past Years CWS He Very Well Could Be Our Consensus #1 Pick.

#3 SFG: Seth Beer – OF – Clemson

Seth Is All Bat His Bat Is As Lethal As Anyone I Have Ever Scouted Immense Power With A Great Swing. He Is A Defensive Liability Because Of His Lack Of Athleticism And Speed But You Know He Will Be A Feared Hitter Wherever He Goes.

#4 CINCY: Brice Turang – SS – HS (California)

Brice Has Baseball Bloodlines Which Teams Love In Prospects His Father Brian Turang Played Professional Baseball. Brice Sure Is A Ball Player Drawing Comparisons To Christian Yelich Sure Is High Praise.

#5 OAK: Joe Gray – OF – HS (Mississippi)

Joe Is Like The 2018 Version Of Jordon Adell (LA Angels 2016 1st Round Pick) From The 2017 Draft Class He Has Very Mixed Reviews But Some Scouts See A Five Tool Game In Him. Very High Risk High Reward Right Here.

#6 NYM: Jackson Kowar – RHP – Florida

Jackson Is On A Loaded Florida Roster With Potential #1 Pick In Brady Singer While He May Not Be The Ace Of The Staff He Sure Is A Very High Octane Player Himself. Many Other Teams Would By Far Have Him As Their Ace.

#7 DET: Jarred Kelenic – OF – HS (Wisconsin)

Jarred Is An Athletic Freak Showing Around The Same Type Skill Set As Joe Gray. Five Tool Potential Here With More Raw Power Than Gray.

#8 SPD: Chandler Day – RHP – Vanderbilt

Chandler Day Will Likely Join The Vanderbilt Ranks Of First Round Pitchers In Recent Years His All Around Pitching Ability Is Advanced And He Shows Just As Good Stuff As Anyone In This Draft Class.

#9 ATL: Konnor Pilkington – LHP – Mississippi State

Konnor Is A Big Physical Lefty With Nasty Drop Dead Great Pitches Needs To Work On Pitchability And Command But If It All Clicks Watch Out!

#10 TOR: Casey Mize – RHP – Auburn

Casey Played Last Year Like A #1 Overall Pick Showed Great All Around Stuff But He Needs To Repeat That Stuff In Order To Be A High Pick In Next Years Draft.

#11 PIT: Nick Madrigal – 2B/SS – Oregon State

Think College, More Advanced Version Of Nick Allen (Oakland A’s 2016 3rd Round Pick). Shares Similar Profile With Defensive First Oriented Play But Has A Deadly Bat As Well Only Draw Back Is 5’8” Frame.

#12 KCR: Ethan Hankins – RHP – HS (Georgia)

Recently Watched Ethan Pitch At The PG All American Game He Showed A Great Sense Of Baseball IQ And A Great Feel For The Game Love This Kids Stuff.

#13 SEA: Kendall Simmons – SS – HS (Georgia)

Kendall Is Very Athletic, Toolsy SS Who Could Shoot Up Draft Boards With A Great Spring. From Tape He Shows A Great Swing With Good Bat Speed Could Really Shoot Up Boards Come Next Draft.

#14 MIA: Luken Baker – 1B – TCU

Luken Baker Reminds Me Of Evan White (Seattle Mariners 2016 First Round Pick). He Will Likely Go In The Same Range Of Picks As White Barring A Bad College Season. Bat First Oriented Very Good Power But Doesn’t Have Versatility To Play Anywhere Other Than 1B.

#15 TEX: Jake Mangum – OF – Mississippi State

Jake Mangum Showed A Great Deal Of A All Around Above Average Game. Has Some Pop, Speed, Defense And Power.

#16 TBR: Mateo Gil – SS – HS (Texas)

Mateo Has Flown Up Draft Boards With A Great Summer On The Showcase Has A Very Unique Profile For A SS And Could Be Even Higher Than This Next Year On Draft Day.

#17 STL: Owen Meaney – RHP – HS (Texas)

Big Physical Righty Who Throws Hard And Has A Lot Of Raw Talent High Upside High Reward.

#18 BALT: Justin Hooper – LHP – UCLA

Justin Was Considered A Top Draft Prospect Out Of High School But Back Issues Made Him Go To UCLA He Has Been Very Solid But Injury Concerns Slip Him Here.

#19 LAA: Will Banfield – C – HS (Georgia)

Will Is An All Around Solid Catcher Does A Little Of Everything And Has Shown A Good Amount Of Pop In His Swing That Makes Him Intriguing.

#20 MIL: Trevor Larnach – OF – Oregon State

Trevor Is Another All Around Solid Contributor Very Solid Yet Not Flashy.

#21 MIN: Jason Bilous – RHP – Coastal Carolina

Jason Has A Great Durable Frame To Thrive As A Starting Pitcher He Also Has A Higher Floor With Less Risk.

#22 NYY: Kris Bubic – LHP – Stanford

Kris Could Honestly Fly Up Draft Boards With A Strong Season Given His Strikeout Rate With Great Velocity. He Could Be Top 10 Next Year Very High Ceiling.

#23 COL: Triston Casas – 1B/3B – HS (Florida)

Triston Reminds Me Of Your Very Stereotypical Corner Infielder. Very Huge Raw Power Great Swing With Good Bat Speed He Has A High Floor With How Developed His Bat Is.

#24 CHC: Josh Stowers – OF – Louisville

Josh Has A Very Great All Around Game Very Skilled Hitter With More Polish Than Most College Hitters Has A High Walk Rate With Low Strikeout Rate Love This Kids Tools Could Rise With Strong Spring.

#25 ARZ: Sean Hjelle – RHP – Kentucky

Sean Is An Absolute Giant Coming In At 6’11” And 200 Lbs. He Has Very Good Mechanics For His Size And Is A Hard Throwing Physical RHP He Could Be A Very Good Value Pick Here With The Right Coaching.

#26 BOS: Sean Guilbe – SS – HS (Pennsylvania)

Let Me First Off Start By Saying BIG BIG BAT. He Plays SS With Ease As Well Great Range But His Highlight Is Honestly His Bat.

#27 CLE: Luke Bartnicki – LHP – HS (Georgia)

Lights Out At The Perfect Game All American Game. Really Improved Throughout The Summer Showed Very Good Arsenal Of Pitches Has Drop Dead Great Stuff When He’s In The Groove.

#28 HOU: Charles Mack – SS – HS (New York)

Huge Potential With Bat. Scouts Dream Of Hitters Like Mack That Play SS He Could Rise A Good Amount But Needs Some Defensive Improvement.

#29 WAS: Shane McClanahan – LHP – South Florida

Has Huge Strikeout Rate And Is Younger Than Most College Draftees. With A Great Spring This Might Be The Floor For Where He Will Go.

#30 LAD: Bryan Hoeing – RHP – Louisville

Bryan Is A Pitcher That Does Everything Above Average Has Decent Velocity And Basically Just Gets The Job Done Good Safe Value Pick Here.

MLB Draft 2018 Watch List

Kumar Rocker – RHP – North Oconee HS (Georgia)

Kumar Is The Just Like Hunter Greene. He’s A Big Powerful Right Handed Pitcher Who Throws A Wicked Fastball With Good Off Speed Pitches As Well. He Needs To Improve His Command But If He Makes More Progress He Could Very Well Hear His Name Called #1 Overall!

Brady Singer – RHP – University Of Florida

If You Watched The College World Series This Year You Probably Saw Just How Dominant Brady Was. He Has Plus Plus Velocity And Throws An Amazing Curveball. While He Still Needs To Improve Parts Of His Game He Could Also Be A Potential #1 Overall Pick.

Seth Beer – OF – University Of Clemson

Seth Is All About That Bat. He Is By Far The Best Hitter In Next Year’s Class But He Isn’t A Extremely Athletic/Versatile Player Which Limits Him Defensively While He May End Up As An DH He Could Also Possibly Be A Corner Outfielder!

Brice Turang – SS – Santiago HS (California)

Brice Has Mixed Opinions Throughout The Baseball World I Have Seen Some That Love His Tools And Overall Game And Some That Sort Of Question His Ability While These Mixed Opinions May Be Because Of A Lack Of Seeing Him Play It Sure Seems He Still Needs To Prove A Lot In Order To Be A Top Pick Next Summer!

Biggest Letdowns Of This Season So Far

  • J.P Crawford – SS – Philadelphia Phillies

J.P Entered The Season As A Top 10 Prospects On Virtually Every List Now Half Way Through The Season He’s More Like A Top 50 Prospect While His Tools Still Remain Very Exciting, His Hitting Ability Has Taken A Step Back. He Is Still Only 22 Years Old And Could Turn Around Quickly To Become A Franchise Cornerstone Shortstop But He Has Lost A Lot Of Luster Off His Prospect Status
  • Lucas Giolito – RHP – Chicago White Sox

Lucas Giolito Entered The Season With A Little Luster Off His Once Status Of The Best Pitching Prospect In Baseball. He Was Traded During This Past Offseason To The Chicago White Sox Along With Reynaldo Lopez, And Dane Dunning For Adam Eaton. While Lopez And Dunning Stocked Has Seen A Sudden Rise Giolito Has Trended Downward. He Owns An 4.73 Era At Triple A Through 116 Innings While He Still Owns A High Swing And Miss Rate (121 Strikeouts), He Has Given Up 56 Walks And Given Up 16 Long Balls He Still Has A Very High Potential But The Clock Is Ticking!
  • Tyler O’Neill – OF – St.Louis Cardinals

Tyler O’ Neill Was Coming Of A “Breakout Season” In The Seattle Mariners Pipeline. Hitting An Impressive .293 Batting Average While Also Flexing His Power In Hitting 24 Home Runs. Not Only Has O’Neill Degressed It Seems He Also Was Traded In July To The Cardinals For Marco Gonzales Showing The Lack Of Hope Coming From The Seattle Mariners Front Office. He Has Shown Good Power Still But Overall Hitting Has Degressed Once Considered A Top 50 Prospect Now Is Lucky To Be Seen As A Top 100!

Biggest Breakout Prospects So Far In 2017?

Now That The ASG Is Over The Second Half Of The Season Is Now Underway While There Have Been Prospects Underachieving And Maybe Overachieving Their Prospect Ranking These Guys On This List Have Raised An Eye To Many Including Me With The Development Of Their Game! So Here It Is

  • Ronald Acuna – OF – Atlanta Braves

Ronald Has Seen His Stock Absolutely SKYROCKET! As A 19 Year Old Prospect Out Of Venezuela He Has Now Cemented Himself In The Conversation Of A Top 20 Prospect. While A 19 Year Old Kid He Has Hit A Consistent .318 Batting Average At Double-A And Has Shown Tremendous Improvement In Basically Every Aspect Of His Game Many Thought A Kid Of His Age He Would Take More Time But He Seems To Be On The Fast Track To The Majors!
  • Bo Bichette – SS – Toronto Blue Jays

Bo Has Taken The League By A Storm Since Becoming A Second Round Pick In 2016 By Toronto So Far Hitting A Outstanding .384 Batting Average At Low- A Lansing He Was Recently Promoted To The Blue Jays High-A Affiliate And High, High Expectations Are On The Way!
  • Walker Buehler – RHP – Los Angeles Dodgers

Walker Is Former First Round Pick From The Draft Machine Vanderbilt University. He Has Done Nothing But Shown That Vanderbilt Has Prepared Him Well So Far For His Professional Career. So Far Pitching To A 2.98 ERA With 56 K’s In 45 IP At Double-A He Has Shown Well And Progressed Very Smoothly For A College Pitcher He Is Really Doing Numbers To His Ranking!
  • Chance Adams – RHP – New York Yankees

With All The Hype Aaron Judge Has Gotten This Season This Fellow Has Flown A Little Under The Radar He Was A Fifth Round Round Pick In 2015 Out Of Dallas Baptist University And Has Had A BIG Breakout Year For The Pinstripes Shelling A Impressive 2.50 ERA In Triple-A With A Good Strikeout Percentage Many Believe You Could See Him In The Big Apple Soon And To Be Honest That Is The Route He’s Taking So Far!
  • Scott Kingery – 2B – Philadelphia Phillies

Scott Has Done Impressive Things So Far This Year And Has Become A Hot Name Throughout Baseball This Season Slashing A Impressive .306 Batting Average At Triple-A While Showing A Low Strikeout To Walk Rate Their Sooner Than Later We Could See This Former Arizona Wildcats Second Baseman Holding Down The Fort For Philly’s Rebuilding Effort!

    Off The Radar Pick

  • Kyle Funkhouser – RHP – Detroit Tigers

Former First Round Pick Slipped To The 3rd Round Of Last Years Draft Given His Rocky Senior Season At Louisville Well He Has Shown Those Doubters Wrong So Far With A Good Four Pitch Arsenal (Fastball, Curveball, Changeup, And Slider) He Has Pitched Very Impressive Out Of Late With A High Strike Out Rate And An Great ERA He Has Progressed Well To The Point He Could Be A Top 100 Prospect By Seasons End With The Same Stuff He Shown To This Point!

Midseason MLB Top 10 Prospects

*Note* None Of The Recent 2017 MLB First Year Player Draftees Are Eligible For My List

Amed Entered The Season As A Very Highly Touted Prospect Not Only Has He Solidified His Standing But Has Exceeded Many People’s Expecations
#3: Vladimir Guerrero Jr. – OF – Toronto Blue Jays
Vlad Has Raked A Ball As A 18 Year Old Though This Isn’t A Very High Level But His Tools And His Age Are Both Huge Plus Factors To Why He Makes It Here On The List

Eloy Is A ABSOLUTE BEAST!!! His Power Tool Is Off The Hook And Has Shown Extreme Improvement All Around
#5: Gleyber Torres – SS – New York Yankees

#7: Victor Robles – OF – Washington Nationals
Victor Robles Has Done More Than Just Hold His Own This Year While He May Not Have Eye Popping Numbers He Has Been Consistent And Has Shown The Five Tool Game We All Think He Has!
#8: Ozzie Albies – 2B – Atlanta Braves
While Ozzie Has Lost A Little Luster Of His Prospect Status To Me Nothing Has Changed I Mean He’s Doing More Than Holding His Own In Triple A As A 20 Year Old What’s Not Impressive About That!
#9: Nick Senzel – 3B – Cincinnati Reds
Nick As Many Expected Has Basically Breezed His Way Through The Reds Minor League System With The Numbers You Want To See! Do I See A Kris Bryant 2.0?
#10: Rafael Devers – 3B – Boston Red Sox
Rafael Devers Has A Very Unique Game For A 3B Has The Hitting Ability But Isn’t As Limited In The Way Of Versatility Like Many 3B He Has All Star Potential If All Clicks!

Wander Is An Exceptional Athlete Who Is My #1 Ranked International Free Agent For The 2017-2018 International Signing Period He Has A Great Feel For Batting And Should Become A Good Hitter But He Is A Defensive Wiz That’s Where His True Value Is Held. He Has Been Linked Heavily To The New York Yankees.
  4. Jelfry Marte – SS – Dominican Republic Age: 16

I Will Be Posting More Later On This Week As I Do More Scouting And Research On More Amateurs!

2017 MLB First Year Player Draft Round 1 Grades

Royce Is A Great Fit For Minnesota. Has Tremendous Upside While Also Signing 1 Million Under Slot!

Hunter Was The Most Talked About Player In The Media A True Generational Talent. Money Issues Made Him Go Second!

  3. San Diego Padres: MacKenzie Gore – LHP – Whiteville HS (North Carolina) Grade: A+

MacKenzie Gore Is My Favorite Player In This Draft Class, Pitches Very Advanced For His Age And Has Huge Upside.

  4. Tampa Bay Rays: Brendan McKay – 1B/LHP – University Of Louisville Grade: A

Brendan Was The Plan B For Minnesota All Along But This Two Way Star’s Bonus Demands Dropped Him To Four.

Widely Viewed As A Steal But Him Signing Roughly 1.3 Million Above Slot Drops The Grade A Little.

Beck Was A Helium Guy This Spring Very Advanced Feel For The Game Offensively Big Risk High Reward Type Of Guy.

  7. Arizona Diamondbacks: Pavin Smith – 1B – University Of Virginia Grade: B

Pavin Here Is A Good Pick To Me Honestly An Average Pick Given He Is Blocked By Goldschmidt But Good Player To Say The Least.

Haseley Was A Guy Who Steadily Improved Throughout The Year Like Him A Lot But How Much Upside Will He Have?

  9. Milwaukee Brewers: Keston Hiura – 2B/OF – University California Irvine Grade: C+

This Pick Is A Little Low I Understand But Him Possibly Needing Surgery And Injury Concerns Drop The Grade For Me A Too Big Risk For Right Here!

  10. Los Angeles Angels: Jordon Adell – OF – Ballard HS (Kentucky) Grade: B-

Jordon Was A Guy Linked Here For A While Would’ve Liked To See Kendall Instead But He’s A Upside Guy Who Is A Possible 5-Tool Player.

J.B. Was A Possible Top 10 Pick At One Point But A Bad Start In A Crucial Time Caused His Stock To Drop Love Him And This Pick!

Clarke Had TJ Surgery Recently And Those Concerns Are There Talented Though Has Good Upside Just Needs Better Health.

White Was A Riser Coming Up To The MLB Draft And He Is Such A Pure Hitter His Hitting Ability Alone Makes Him Worthy Here!

  18. Detroit Tigers: Alex Faedo – RHP – University Of Florida Grade: A-

Faedo Was A Possible Top 10 Pick But Decreased Velocity Seems To Be Why He Dropped Like Him A Lot Safer College Pick Has Starter Potential But Has Modest Floor.

Heliot Was A Guy Nobody Knew Where To Slot Him In Mocks Widely Viewed By Media As A Poor Move By The Giants Like This Move Though!

Big Risk Here Washington Takes Seth Romero Who Has Well Documented Behavioral Issues Could Be Big Or A Nothing In A Few Years!

  26. Texas Rangers: Bubba Thompson – OF – McGill-Toolen HS (Alabama) Grade: B+

Bubba Was Linked To The Dodgers All Spring But He Is A Great Athlete And You Know Texas Loves Them Athletes!
